DNS Information

From visp.net NOC

visp.net maintains multiple DNS servers, and our authoritative DNS hosts are distinctly separate from our caching DNS hosts. This means that our authoritative DNS hosts do no caching, and entries in our authoritative servers will not be visible unless queried directly, either via a tool such as 'dig' or via recursion (pointing the domain to these hosts). Additionally, our caching DNS hosts do not directly reference our authoritative servers, but instead do full recursive queries to ensure that outdated information on one of our authoritative hosts (such as a domain that has recently moved away) will not have any effect on users utilizing our caching DNS servers.

Authoritative Servers

Our authoritative DNS servers that you may see listed in WHOIS or tools such as 'dig' are configured to be non-recursive. These servers only contain information for domains that we host, and will not query other servers for DNS information. Attempting to use them for recursive DNS lookups (such as entering them in your resolver configuration) will create less-than-desirable results.

Our authoritative DNS servers are:

NS.VISP.NET [207.109.251.100]
NS2.VISP.NET [207.109.251.101]

Caching (Recursive) Servers

Our recursive DNS servers are used by our access subscribers for name resolution for Internet hosts. These servers are not authoritative for any domains, and will either return cached results if available or execute recursive queries against the root servers and authoritative servers for the domain in question. These servers should only be used by our access customers, and access to query them from hosts not residing within our network will very likely not work.

Our recursive DNS servers honor the Time-to-Live (TTL) values returned through recursive lookups. Due to the inefficiency involved with removing cached DNS records, we will not generally clear our DNS cache to resolve a resolution issue caused by DNS resource record changes. If you plan to making future DNS changes for a domain in your control and need a fast turn-around, you may wish to lower your domains' TTLs well before the change is implemented.

Our recursive DNS servers are:

NS-C1.VISP.NET [207.109.251.1]
NS-C2.VISP.NET [207.109.251.10]
